The Court will be closed Friday, August 2nd, 2024 for a work day and will open the following Monday at 8:00 AM. If your citation is due during that time, it will extend to the following Monday.
What Court do I need to contact?
If your citation states you need to contact the Justice of the Peace in Clay County, Texas, this is the right court. If the citation says contact the Municipal Court of Henrietta, Texas, please call our office at 940.538.6531 for information.
Questions
Justice of the Peace courts have original jurisdiction in Class C misdemeanor criminal cases and offenses punishable by fine only.
A Justice of the Peace may issue search or arrest warrants and may serve as the coroner in counties where there is no provision for a medical examiner.
The Court also functions as small claims courts and has jurisdiction over civil matters up to $20,000 in Clay County, Texas.
PLEASE READ ABOUT CONTACTING THE COURT:
A person cannot talk to a Judge about a case pending before the Court without all sides being present. That is called an ex parte communication and is prohibited.
“A Judge shall not initiate, permit, or consider ex parte or other communications made to the Judge outside the presence of the parties…concerning the merits of a pending or impending judicial proceeding. A Judge shall require compliance with this subsection by court personnel subject to his or her direction and control… Code of Judicial Conduct, Canon 3, Section B.(8)
